CANTON, Ill. (AP) ? The union representing faculty at Spoon River Community College has filed a 10-day strike notice.
Stacy Swanson is president of the college's faculty association. She tells WGIL Radio in Galesburg that the notice filed with the Illinois Education Labor Relations Board doesn't necessarily mean that a strike will happen.
She says the two sides have met 17 times since last March, including two with a mediator. Spoon River Community College President Curt Oldfield says both sides are working hard to come to an agreement and that progress has been made. The next negotiation session is scheduled for Jan. 22.
The union is threatening to strike unless an agreement is reached on salary, insurance, and professional advancement.
