Improve Your Video Marketing In 5 Simple Steps - Small Business ...

Video Marketing For Small Businesses

In our current business climate it would almost be irresponsible to dismiss the impact Video Marketing has brought to the playing field. One?s internet presence is equally as important as any advertising campaign or merchandising strategy. And, as time progresses internet search driven video marketing may very well become the only marketing tool that matters. Let?s face it as the world moves online, those that haven?t as yet may find themselves offline, sidelined and out of line with the wants and needs of their prospective clientele.

I think it would be fair to say that Google has established themselves as THE power house of ?internet marketing with no signs of slowing down. So, it would only stand to reason that such a company would serve as the perfect template to apply to any business looking to exploit the web for the purposes of ?getting the word out? though video marketing. As detailed in the rather informative post?5 Video Marketing Lessons We Can Learn from Google, such a venture can be broken down into 5 simple applications:

1. Target Your Audience By Broadening Your Net

A common mistake a lot of video marketers make is that they focus solely on their core audience, creating videos aimed at one language, cultural and geographical demographic. Google instead creates different channels for users specific to region and language that promote their niche interests.

2. Understand When Your Marketing For the Marketer or the User

Corporation and customers serve distinct purposes therefore it is understandable that the have different needs. Google recognizes this and as a result has different services, ads, communications and YouTube channels for marketers and advertisers, or major businesses.

3. Don?t Ignore The Cry From Your Public

The formula is simple and the first thing one needs to understand is that your first draft of any idea my not always come out as planned. Put it out, listen to feedback from your customers, tweak it and be patient. You may end up with a polished product or scraps but, what is important is understanding your public?s needs.

4. Generate A Buzz!

If you are not excited about your product, how do expect anyone else to be? Get out there on all social media platforms and get the word out!

5. Take A Risk (Calculated Risk, that is)

If ?Google folded their cards the second their risks didn?t pay off, there would be no need to write this post. You have to take a chance.?A well calculated, methodical, strategic chance but, a chance none the less. Remember your willingness to do what your competitors won?t, will ultimately define and enhance your business.

Calorie limits don't extend lifespan but might keep you healthier

For 75 years, scientists have documented a curious fact: If rats and mice eat 30% to 40% fewer calories than normal, they live 15% to 40% longer than is typical for their species. The observation has offered humans hope that our own maximum life span could one day be extended, enabling people to live well past their 100th birthday.

A new study of monkeys pours cold water on that notion ? while at the same time offering some heartening health news.

Among a colony of rhesus monkeys tracked for more than 20 years, animals whose calories were restricted to 30% below normal lived no longer, on average, than monkeys whose eating was unrestricted, scientists found. But the diet did offer clear benefits, notably in warding off cancer.

It appears that "we are seeing a separation between what we call 'health span' from 'life span' ? they are not hand in hand," said Rafael de Cabo, an experimental gerontologist at the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore and senior author of the study.

The report, published online Wednesday by the journal Nature, suggests that what has proven true for rodents and various other animals may not hold true for primates ? humans included ? at least under the conditions that were studied. The findings are likely to disappoint the hundreds of people in the U.S. who practice a strict regimen of calorie restriction in hopes of postponing their appointment with the Grim Reaper.

But the results also have some researchers scratching their heads. The results are quite different from a 2009 study of monkeys in a colony in Wisconsin that found a clear survival edge from age-related diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease in calorie-restricted animals. That study also saw a trend toward longer life for monkeys on the diet when all causes of death were considered.

Figuring out whether differences in diet, the animals' genetic makeup or something else caused the results to diverge could offer important clues to the ways in which calorie restriction ? and aging ? work, De Cabo said.

The new study tracked 121 male and female monkeys at the National Institutes of Health's animal center in Maryland starting in 1987. One group of 35 animals ? the "old onset" group ? were 16 to 23 years old when the study began. (Rhesus monkeys mature around age 4 or 5 and live to 27, on average, in captivity.) The rest were in a group that included juvenile and adolescent monkeys, as well as younger adults up to the age of 14.

All the monkeys received the same food, but the control animals could eat as much as they wanted during daylight hours. The rest were limited to only 70% of what they ate before the experiment began.

In the older group, there was no overall difference in age of death between calorie-restricted and free-eating animals. That was true when all causes of death were considered together as well as when deaths from age-related illnesses were calculated separately, the authors found.

Longevity under both conditions was above the norm, however. And four of the older animals in the calorie-restricted group and one from the control group have broken rhesus monkey longevity records by living beyond 40 years.

That fact especially intrigues gerontologist Rick Weindruch of the University of Wisconsin in Madison, author of the earlier monkey study.

"To me this is really important ? that five animals either reached or exceeded what has been thought to be the maximum life span of the species," Weindruch said.

Among the younger animals, the scientists didn't find any survival edge for dieting animals. But they did find reduced rates of diabetes and stark differences in cancer rates.

So far, no monkey in the calorie-restricted group has been diagnosed with cancer, De Cabo said, whereas six cases have occurred in the controls and are believed to have been the cause of death of five of them. That is in line with rodent studies, which have also found that calorie restriction seems to ward off cancer.

There were other differences too. Calorie-restricted monkeys weighed less and looked younger than the animals that ate freely. They also appeared "younger" in some metabolic respects, with lower blood levels of triglycerides and glucose in the old group and lower cholesterol levels in males of both age classes.

The fact that diseases of old age can be warded off even if life span isn't necessarily extended suggests "that health and longevity are not the same thing," said Steven N. Austad, a biogerontologist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, who wrote a commentary accompanying the report.

This could be considered encouraging, he added: "In the ideal scenario, we'd stay healthy to a relatively decent age and then we'd suddenly fall over at the appropriate time. That would be a good thing. What we don't want is people living longer and longer in worse and worse health."

Scientists aren't sure how to explain why the new study produced different results than the Wisconsin study, in which only 13% of the calorie-restricted monkeys died due to some age-related disease compared with 37% of the control monkeys.

But they have some ideas. Chief among them: The food served was very different, even though the overall amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fats were similar in both studies.

The Wisconsin diet consisted of purified ingredients mixed together and was high in sugar, perhaps explaining why so many of the free-feeding monkeys in that study developed diabetes. The Maryland monkeys ate a diet made from natural ingredients that contained more plant micronutrients and omega-3 fatty acids, among other items.

As a result, all of the monkeys in the new study may have been healthier overall, regardless of whether they were calorie-restricted.

Though the final word on whether calorie restriction extends life span is not in ? nearly 50% of the younger monkeys are still alive ? the authors wrote that they are unlikely to find a survival edge when all is said and done. But it's still possible they will, De Cabo said, especially if the cancer difference grows starker.

Even if the strategy turns out not to be the elixir of youth, that wouldn't devastate 54-year-old St. Louis resident Joe Cordell, an avid practitioner of calorie restriction for the last 10 years.

"I would like to live to the outer limits of what human beings normally live," said the 5-foot-9, 129-pound lawyer, who eats berries, apple peel and walnuts for breakfast and favors giant salads for dinner.

But, he added, "I would be delighted to take 90 to 95 years without cancer, without heart disease, without diabetes or other chronic illnesses. To me, that would have warranted this."

Abortion ban backers fail to make Colorado ballot

DENVER (AP) ? The nation's only pending ballot measure to ban abortion in all circumstances has failed to advance to voters in Colorado.

Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced Wednesday that backers of the divisive "personhood" amendment fell about 3,900 valid signatures short of the some 86,000 needed.

The rejection was a major setback for abortion foes in the home state of Personhood USA, which said the Colorado proposal was the only measure pending for ballots this fall. Other initiatives are aimed for future years but not this fall, Personhood USA spokeswoman Jennifer Mason said Wednesday.

Personhood proposals go farther than other proposed abortion bans because they would give fertilized embryos all the rights of a born human. They would ban embryonic stem-cell research and some fertility treatments.

The measures haven't been backed by other abortion opponents or the Catholic church.

Personhood proposals were overwhelmingly rejected by Colorado voters in 2010 and 2008. Similar measures have been rejected by voters in Mississippi and by several state legislatures.

Colorado has a relatively low threshold for petitioning measures onto ballots, making it a hotbed for proposed citizen initiatives. The rejection of the personhood measure leaves only one citizen initiative on ballots: a proposal to buck federal law and legalize marijuana without a doctor's recommendation for adults over 21.

Personhood USA vowed to fight the Colorado rejection in court. The group argues some of the signatures were improperly rejected, including some on which a notary public changed a date.

"We are going to be filing to have those ballot signatures recounted, and we are confident personhood will be on ballots this fall," Mason said.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, which campaigned against the two earlier personhood proposals and was raising money to do it again this year, lauded the rejection. Spokeswoman Monica McCafferty said support for the idea is eroding.

"This year they're not even getting people to sign on to the concept," she said. "Hopefully that signals that Coloradans understand the concept, that they don't like the outcome of what this would mean."

The political implications of Colorado's personhood decision were immediately apparent. Democrats say the unpopular measure has helped motivate female voters, and they immediately scrambled to connect Republicans to the measure even though it's not on ballots.

A Democratic suburban Denver congressman being challenged by well-funded Republican Joe Coors reminded voters that Coors once gave money to personhood backers.

"Regardless of this initiative appearing on the ballot, this doesn't change Joe Coors' extreme views and past funding and support for efforts to restrict a woman's ability to make her own medical decisions," read a statement from the spokeswoman for Rep. Ed Perlmutter.

Coors volleyed back with a statement that voters are more interested in talking about the economy. He distanced himself from the abortion measure.

"Joe's stated that he wouldn't endorse personhood, and it's clear Colorado voters have already spoken on this issue ? twice now," said his spokeswoman, Michelle Yi.

A Democratic strategist who worked to fight the previous Colorado personhood measures said Democrats will still campaign on abortion this year, even without a personhood proposal on ballots. She pointed out that Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan opposes abortion in all cases and sponsored a federal version of a personhood measure.

"What began as a fringe issue in Colorado in 2008 has become a mainstream issue for the Republican Party in 2012," Laura Chapin said. "When you've got Paul Ryan on the ticket, I would say yes, this is going to be a major issue in the campaign for women voters."

The head of Colorado's Democratic party put out a statement Wednesday saying Ryan and other Republicans still have an "extreme agenda" aimed at ending abortion rights.

Mason insisted personhood ballot proposals draw social conservatives to the polls as much as they draw abortion-rights supporters. She said the rejection of Colorado's personhood amendment could hurt Mitt Romney, because some social conservatives find him too moderate and may stay home without personhood on ballots.

The presidential campaigns did not immediately return calls seeking comment on the Colorado personhood decision.

Empower Your Business With SEO Services | Contacts Manufacturer ...

When you start doing business online, it is necessary to make it visible on the lists of search engines. Search engines play a very important role in the advertising and promotion of a company. Most online surfers around the world start their product search on search engines. If a company is not visible in search engine results, it is not considered as reputed. The studies show that most of the searches end on first page and very few people visit the second page of search engines. And therefore it is necessary for all businesses to enhance their search engine ranking so as to generate more business opportunities.

Monitoring the performance of a website is nothing, but preparing a detailed report of the keyword rankings, increase or decrease in the number of visitors, change in sales and so on. You have to make sure that any SEO services India that you hire is quite eager to provide you the report that gives a clear idea about the SEO campaign.

Unless you have tried and proven that your seo service is in fact good, you can make certain that you will have stable ranking in Google, or Yahoo, or even MSN (Bing) for that matter. But if you are a new internet marketer for that matter, all you have are personal references and reviews. No one would like to find themselves spending too much time looking for the right seo service, every person likes competent service right away. No one wants to think about such time wasted for such meaningless hunt.

If you are experiencing a slowdown and dismal online response for your business, its high time to get in touch with a genuine and competent seo company india. They will work out on different SEO strategies to revive your online business presence.

Always ask for keywords that rank SEO services provider?s website, and check them on any search engine. If the website of the service provider does not rank well with its own keywords, how can you trust it to rank your website in search engine, better reject it.

Selecting an authentic and reputed SEO service is very essential, if you want to make your site stand in a better position in the SE page permanently. You need to keep in mind while selecting a SEO professional or seo company.

Availability of so many SEO companies could confuse you but you could filter your results by choosing only experienced firms. Out of the experience firms, go for the companies located in metro cities. Bear in mind that the best SEO company India would always work from a metro city where it could take advantage of high end infrastructure. Another advantage of joining a metro company is that being situated in metro makes it traceable. You could locate its physical presence with Google map.

If you?re new to the world of internet marketing or hosting a business online then you?re probably just now discovering how cruel a market this is. The internet is literally riddled with billions of web pages and most of them are never seen by human eyes. Why is this? With billions of web pages out there, the search engines can only display a select few on top of the search results. It?s nearly impossible to tell everyone about every single site out on the web available without ranking them in a very particular way. There has to be order or else it would be complete chaos whenever you typed something in on Google.

If you too have launched a new business or wish to target maximum audiences for your online presence, it is crucial that you seek services of a proficient SEO company. However, one should avoid taking a quick decision to choose the SEO partner. Invest some time in finding a provider that clearly understands your online marketing needs and can customize the services for your business.

You need to know about this before making any commitment. Check whether the previous SEO campaigns of the SEO company were successful or not.

Oh No They Didn't! - Lisa Kudrow May Take Legal Dispute with Ex ...

An attorney for Lisa Kudrow said he and the actress are considering taking a legal dispute with her former manager to the California Supreme Court.

The legal dispute began in 2008, when Kudrow's former manager, Scott Howard, sued her for refusing to pay him more than $50,000 in fees from her earnings from the television show Friends and other projects.

Last week, an appeals court ruled as admissible "expert" testimony that it is customary practice to pay managers a cut from projects received after a working relationship ends. Kudrow's lawyer has sought to keep that testimony out of the trial, which has not yet gone to a jury.

"The bottom line at this point in time is we are taking a look at possibly petitioning the California Supreme Court to look at the matter and at the same Ms. Kudrow is looking forward to having the matter decided in front of a jury if the matter proceeds to a trial court for a determination," said her attorney, Gerald Sauer of the law firm Sauer & Wagner LLP.

In 1991, Howard said the two had made an oral agreement that would receive a 10-percent cut of Kudrow's income, according to the lawsuit.

Starting in 1992, Kudrow had made recurring guest appearances on NBC's Mad About You. From 1994 through 2004, she starred as Phoebe in the hit series Friends. Toward the end of the series, she was entitled to 1.25 percent of profit from the show. For the last 18 episodes in 2004, Kudrow made $1 million an episode.

Howard and his company, Howard Entertainment Inc., did not return a request for comment.

In 2000 and 2004, the two modified their oral agreement to lower Howard's commission on certain earnings from Friends, eventually down to five percent, according to decision from the California court of appeal.

The recent declaration in question was submitted by Hollywood manager Martin Bauer on behalf of Howard.

Bauer said that "from at least the early 1980s, it had been the custom and practice in the entertainment industry for a personal manager to be paid post-termination commissions on the services that their clients rendered, and on engagements that their clients entered into, when the personal manager was representing them," according to the court filing.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court barred Howard from admitting the Bauer's testimony, and he granted Kudrow summary judgment. The appeals court reversed Wednesday, saying Bauer should be allowed to testify on remand, as reported by Courthouse News Service.

Kudrow's attorney said the court of appeals "obviously has taken a different view" than the lower courts.

"The court of appeals opinion by no means indicates there is an industry practice custom that would apply to this case," Sauer said. "We will be given an opportunity at trial that an industry custom did not exist when Kudrow and Howard entered into the original relationship in 1991."

Sauer, who said Kudrow would decline to comment, said they have until Oct. 1 to decide if they will file a petition with the California Superior Court.

When asked for his reaction to the now four-year-old case, Sauer said, "The legal process is one with twists and turns. You never know how long it is going to take."

Legal Fight with Florida Unions Costs Taxpayers Nearly $500,000 ...

Most people would be thankful if they only had to pay three percent of their salary toward retirement. That would be considered a gift in the private sector. But to Florida?s government employees, it?s a crime and an insult. That?s why the unions have filed a lawsuit, forcing the Florida Department of Management Services to rack up a whopping $499,288 in legal fees (thus far) to defend a new law requiring government employees to pay a paltry three percent towards their state pensions. Unsurprisingly, the unions won the first round in court. There is always a politically-friendly judge ? perhaps even one on the union donor list ? ready to lend a hand in a time of crisis. Now the state?s Supreme Court will decide the matter. The unions, led by the Florida Education Association, successfully argued that making employees pay anything ?violated the contract between the state and current employees.? But the unions weren?t done. The FEA have also filed a lawsuit challenging new laws dictating how teachers are evaluated and compensated. That case has yet to be heard in court, but the state has already spent $3,354 on legal fees and the meter continues to run. Not only do unions make public schools very expensive to operate, but they also make any type of pro-student reform very expensive to implement. Perhaps heavily unionized governments should adopt the motto: ?Damned if you reform, damned if you don?t.?

A VC: MBA Mondays: Accounting From The Archives

We have five weeks (including today) before we start the sustainability course. It's not enough time to start a new series. So I've decided to rerun five posts on accounting and financial statements that I did early on in MBA Mondays. This is core stuff. If you want to start a business, run a business, and/or operate a business, you need to know the basics of accounting and finance.

So today we will rerun the post on accounting. The next three weeks we will go through the three main financial statements. And we will end with a post on understanding financial statements.

----------------------------------------

Accounting is keeping track of the money in a company. It's critical to keep good books and records for a business, no matter how small it is. I'm not going to lay out exactly how to do that, but I am going to discuss a few important principles.

The first important principal is every financial transaction of a company needs to be recorded. This process has been made much easier with the advent of accounting software. For most startups, Quickbooks will do in the beginning. As the company grows, the choice of accounting software will become more complicated, but by then you will have hired a financial team that can make those choices.

The recording of financial transactions is not an art. It is a science and a well understood science. It revolves around the twin concepts of a "chart of accounts" and "double entry accounting." Let's start with the chart of accounts.

The accounting books of a company start with a chart of accounts. There are two kinds of accounts; income/expense accounts and asset/liability accounts. The chart of accounts includes all of them. Income and expense accounts represent money coming into and out of a business. Asset and liability accounts represent money that is contained in the business or owed by the business.

Advertising revenue that you receive from Google Adsense would be an income account. The salary expense of a developer you hire would be an expense account. Your cash in your bank account would be an asset account. The money you owe on your company credit card would be called "accounts payable" and would be a liability.

When you initially set up your chart of accounts, the balance in each and every account is zero. As you start entering financial transactions in your accounting software, the balances of the accounts goes up or possibly down.

The concept of double entry accounting is important to understand. Each financial transaction has two sides to it and you need both of them to record the transaction. Let's go back to that Adsense revenue example. You receive a check in the mail from Google. You deposit the check at the bank. The accounting double entry is you record an increase in the cash asset account on the balance sheet and a corresponding equal increase in the advertising revenue account. When you pay the credit card bill, you would record a decrease in the cash asset account on the balance sheet and a decrease in the "accounts payable" account on the balance sheet.

These accounting entries can get very complicated with many accounts involved in a single recorded transaction, but no matter how complicated the entries get the two sides of the financial transaction always have to add up to the same amount. The entry must balance out. That is the science of accounting.

Since the objective of MBA Mondays is not to turn you all into accountants, I'll stop there, but I hope everyone understands what a chart of accounts and an accounting entry is now.

Once you have a chart of accounts and have recorded financial transactions in it, you can produce reports. These reports are simply the balances in various accounts or alternatively the changes in the balances over a period of time.

The next three posts are going to be about the three most common reports;

??? ???? the profit and loss statement which is a report of the changes in the income and expense accounts over a certain period of time (month and year being the most common)
??? ???? the balance sheet which is a report of the balances all all asset and liability accounts at a certain point in time
??? ???? the cash flow statement which is report of the changes in all of the accounts (income/expense and asset/liability) in order to determine how much cash the business is producing or consuming over a certain period of time (month and year being the most common)

If you have a company, you must have financial records for it. And they must be accurate and up to date. I do not recommend doing this yourself. I recommend hiring a part-time bookkeeper to maintain your financial records at the start. A good one will save you all sorts of headaches. As your company grows, eventually you will need a full time accounting person, then several, and at some point your finance organization could be quite large.

There is always a temptation to skimp on this part of the business. It's not a core part of most startup businesses and is often not valued by tech entrepreneurs. But please don't skimp on this. Do it right and well. And hire good people to do the accounting work for your company. It will pay huge dividends in the long run.

DNR gives waterfowl reminders | The Journal Gazette

? In preparation for dove and waterfowl hunting seasons after a summer of drought, the DNR has released a set of reminders of dos-and-don?ts.

After Thousands of Years, Are We There Yet? The Effect of Trust ...

In 'Science and the Common Understanding', written in 1953, noted theoretical physicist and 'father of the atomic bomb' J. Robert Oppenheimer prophesized:

"The open society, the unrestricted access to knowledge, the unplanned and uninhibited association of men for its furtherance -- these are what may make a vast, complex, ever growing, ever changing, ever more specialized and expert technological world, nevertheless a world of human community."

Oppenheimer anticipated, sixty years ago, pretty much what we - as humans, customers, and marketers - are experiencing today on a worldwide basis. There are many emerging trends which will influence the continuing growth and impact of social word-of-mouth, including mobile technology evolution, stronger focus on the emotional (as well as rational) elements of value, brand equity and customer relationships (even in B2B), more active inclusion of customers in branding, marketing and development decisions (advisory boards, online customer communities, etc.), and further movement away from heavy, almost exclusive use of traditional forms of advertising and promotion to those where consumers live and communicate (microblogging/Twitter, search engines, text messaging, social networking such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Digg, etc.).

The amount of coverage online social media receives is tremendous. There is a strong and disproportionate amount of attention, as a medium for companies to influence consumers and as a medium for consumers to use to communicate with each other. There is so much material on how organizations can leverage social media to manage brand perception, dialogue with customers, and increase share of wallet and share of market that it could easily be taken as conventional wisdom that ?online social media? is simply a surrogate term for all social media. It must be remembered, however, that offline word-of-mouth is still, by a wide margin, the most significant communication mode and driver of b2b and b2c customer decision-making, even among young people for whom mobile communication appears to be a way of life; and the results of multiple studies reinforce that continued key finding.

Companies want to be where their customers are, offline or online. Online, customers have been sending increasingly strong signals that they will be using social applications, such as Twitter and YouTube, to communicate about vendor experiences. Customers want to be able to access whatever information they want, whenever they want, and wherever they want; and companies will need to harvest and analyze data for patterns and themes using computer-aided qualitative analysis software, such as text mining and cloud techniques.

In this time of Xbox, Wii, HD, PDAs, iPads and sophisticated, smart cell phones, the Internet is the acknowledged great, central enabler of social media. Nothing during our lifetime has so influenced the way people live their lives as the Internet. Brand marketers, especially those representing food and drink products and consumer packaged goods, have dramatically increased their word-of-mouth marketing spending, especially online. They are actively creating new communities of product and service users, whose principal purpose is to spread the word and, hopefully, influence consumer behavior. Even so, word-of-mouth, through online social media, remains a fraction of the overall advertising and marketing budget.

A phalanx of consulting organizations has evaluated the role of the Internet in our day to day existence, and, at the same time, creating major sea changes in traditional media channels. One such study was recently completed by Fleishman-Hillard, a major public relations firm. Their study is particularly important in that it represented 48% of the global online population, with respondents in France, Germany, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, China, and Japan. Fleishman-Hillard evaluated influence; however, their definition of influence was not impact on purchase behavior, but the amount of time consumers spend on each communications medium and the degree of importance each medium has in their daily lives, particularly in their perceptions and attitudes.

Their study revealed several key insights, including:

- Though digital communications dominate in terms of its use as a medium of conveying information (roughly twice that of television, and ten times that of print media), relatively little is spent in real marketing dollars. As consumers continue to shift their methods of communication, companies will need to rebalance their media mix so that it is more aligned with what customers are doing.

- Asia is on the march as a digital power. Chinese use of the Internet has seen significant increase over the past few years. At 330 million users, they now represent an entity larger than the population of the United States. Combined with India, the Internet-using population is over 500 million (and is expected to grow by over 700 million by 2015, according to a McKinsey study). In addition to their numbers, Chinese Internet users are different as well, with much heavier researching, and expression of personal views through online social media.

- Malaysia, however, wins top prize for Internet use, especially where social media are concerned: though the country has only 15 million Internet users, this represents almost 60% of the population (and McKinsey forecasts that this will rise to 25 million, or 80% of the population by 2015). Malaysians are active users of social media sites and instant messaging, consuming 35% more digital media than Internet users in China and 150% more than those in India. India, with only 7 percent of the population having Internet access, is anticipated to grow to 28 percent penetration by 2015; and they are heavy users of email and downloaded videos and music.

Digital communications impact decision-making, especially its facility as a resource to compare options, and to identify expert and peer advice which creates greater confidence. Especially important here is the role of search engines, which often serve as information research launching points.

Online information-sharing is also coming to be seen as somewhat dangerous. As more and more people use online social media and generate content, over half of the respondents in Fleishman-Hillard?s study felt that people share too much personal information online, and over one-fifth felt that expressing personal opinions online could have a negative effect on their reputation, career, or financial well-being.

Trust was identified as a particularly critical social media issue. It?s one of the key reasons why mass, 'push' advertising and promotional communication is something of the past. Consumers no longer trust information shoveled at them through a few large channels, and are far more interested in retrieving content from sources that they select and cross-checking for accuracy. Though there is increased usage of online postings to glean information on the experiences of others, there is also increasing skepticism. The Fleishman-Hillard study found that 39% believe it is safe to communicate with others online, but 19% felt it was unsafe to do so. We can conclude that, insofar as online dialogue is concerned, consumers are ?cautiously trusting?.

So, paraphrasing Oppenheimer, in this expanding world of human community, where technology makes vast amounts of information available to anyone at any time, any company's current and potential customers will be increasingly sensitive to the level of honesty, objectivity, and transparency represented in all content as they gather knowledge and make decisions. What we are all looking for is sincerity, or genuineness. The word sincerity, by the way, comes from the Latin root 'sincerus', or without necessity of a wax seal on a transactional contract between supplier and customer. Sincerity is at the core of trust creation.

Stripping away the effects of technological advances as Oppenheimer saw them, nothing much has really changed in the building of trust and value between vendor and customer in thousands of years. 'Humanness' endures. Personally, I find that very reassuring.

Top 15 Ways to Build A List Of Monetizable Subscribers - TheBitBot ...

Email marketing can be profitable for any business, no matter what kind of product or service you offer. It is significantly cheaper than other advertising methods and, if done right, helps build loyalty and trust with customers. As a result, you generate more sales and more profits!

The foundation for successful email marketing is a targeted, permission-based email list. Marketers call contact lists their ?goldmine? because it can generate much of their sales revenue. If you?ve built up a list of opt-in subscribers that are qualified and interested in what you have to offer, then you?ve completed the first step and are on your way. Now it?s time to ?mine? for gold!

Below you?ll find several list-building and retention ideas that will help you get the best results from all your email marketing activities:

  1. Provide useful, relevant content. Your visitors will not give you their email addresses just because they can subscribe to your newsletter free of charge. You have to provide unique and valuable information that will be of interest or use to them.

  2. Add a subscription form to every page on your website. Make sure it stands out so it is easy to find. If it doesn?t look cluttered, you may want to include more than one on some pages. For instance, if your opt-in form always appears in the top-left corner of your site, you may want to add one at the end of your most popular articles.

  3. Add subscription forms to your social media pages. Make sure that you don?t waste this valuable source of revenue opportunities. Integrate your sign-up forms with Facebook and more!

  4. Make it easy for readers to sign up. The more information you request, the fewer people will opt-in. In most cases, a name and an email address should suffice. If it?s not necessary, don?t include it here. You can always survey them once they?re customers! We do recommend that you provide a link to your Privacy Policy however.

  5. Publish a Privacy Policy. Let your readers know that they can be confident you will not share their information with others. The easiest way to do this is to set up a Privacy Policy web page and provide the link to it below your opt-in form. (Note: If you don?t have one, put the words ?privacy policy generator? into a search engine and you should be able to find a suitable form to use.)

  6. Provide samples of your newsletters and Ezines. This lets potential subscribers review your materials before they sign up to determine if it?s something they?d be interested in.

  7. Archive past newsletters and articles. An online library of past newsletters and articles is both appealing and useful to visitors and builds your credibility as an authority. In addition, if your articles are written with good SEO techniques in mind, they can increase traffic to your website through enhanced search engine positioning.

  8. Give gifts subscribers can actually use. Offer an opt-in bonus for joining your subscriber list! Write an ebook or provide a PDF business report, or even hire a programmer to create downloadable or web-based software. But don?t limit yourself to offering gifts to opt-ins. Give them out when your readers fill out a survey, provide a testimonial, success story, or a great product idea. Let them know when they can expect the next gift offer. Everyone likes to get something for free! And if you pass out ?goodies? throughout the year, your subscribers will feel truly appreciated ? and that?s good for business!

  9. Ask your subscribers to pass it on. Word of mouth is a powerful viral technique that works great with email marketing. If your subscribers find your content interesting, amusing or informative, they?ll probably share it with their friends. This can be a great source of new customers, so make sure to remind them to ?pass it on?.

  10. Let others reprint your newsletter as long as the content is not modified. If you?re happy to share your content with the universe, then why not! Many webmasters and newsletter publishers are actively looking for high-quality content and, if they reprint your newsletter, you?ll get new subscribers, and more traffic and links pointing to your site.

  11. Include a ?Sign Up? button in your newsletter. If you?re using plain text instead of HTML, be sure to provide a text link to your subscription page. You may feel that this is not required because the subscriber is already on your list, but remember that readers will forward your newsletters to others, or reprint them online. Make it easy for them to subscribe!

  12. Add a squeeze page. A squeeze page has one goal ? to acquire opt-ins and build your list. Think of it as a mini-sales letter to go along with your subscription or opt-in gift. It should feature a strong headline and a couple of powerful benefits that should make subscribers salivate to sign up! Once created, use a service such as WordTracker to find hundreds of targeted keywords, and promote your offer using pay-per-click advertising from Google, MSN and Yahoo. Now that should make a splash!

  13. Include testimonials on your squeeze page. This is crucial. Put one or two strong testimonials from satisfied customers on your squeeze page. This can be in any format, but you may find that multimedia (audio or video) is more ?believable? and inspires more people to action. To further enhance believability, get permission to use actual customer names, locations and/or urls (Don?t use ?Bob K, FL?). Add a note inviting others to participate. After all, it?s free publicity!

  14. Blog religiously. Blogging is a great way to communicate with prospects and potential customers, and creates a nice synergy with your email marketing. Be sure to include your newsletter sign-up form on each page of your blog. You can start a free blog at Blogger or WordPress.

  15. Post on other blogs. Post thoughtful comments and information on similar blogs with a link to your squeeze or opt-in pages. Also comment on others? blogs through trackbacks. In most cases, your comments will be posted on their blogs with a link back to your site. This is an easy way to generate new traffic and subscribers, and get your brand out there!

Dept of Service tax has been sending notices to all the NBFC's regarding their registration with Service tax dept.

It is not in negative list for sure, but the matter is filled with ambiguity at the present moment.

NBFC who Lends the money is also covered under Service tax, so the income which is generated through it might also fall under service tax.

Total thanks : 1 times

It depends if your NBFC interest is not crossing the threshold limit of 9lacs, you do not require registration under Service tax, but if it crosses then you might be needing registration.

Chimp Research Facility Found Not Guilty of Breeding Animals

The NIH ruled that a Louisiana animal research facility that allowed its chimpanzees to reproduce in captivity was not breaking a breeding moratorium

By Meredith Wadman of Nature magazine

Senior officials at the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) have concluded that a major chimpanzee research centre did not violate the biomedical agency?s breeding moratorium, despite 130 infants being born at the centre to NIH-owned parents between 2000 and 2010 (see 'Lab bred chimps despite ban').

The assessment, carried out by the NIH?s Office of Extramural Research and obtained by Nature under the US Freedom of Information Act, argues that the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC), part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, did not violate the 17-year-old moratorium for two reasons. First, its 3?4% mortality rate during the period matched those of other NIH-supported chimpanzee centers. Second, the centre did not make additional charges to the NIH as a result of the births.

?Based on?a decrease in census and no increase in cost?NIRC has not violated the [NIH] moratorium,? the document states. It also argues that the NIRC?s contraception program ? which it says led to a 13% average annual conception rate in the years leading up to 2010, down from 50% in 1995 ? ?is within acceptable limits? for preventing pregnancy in the federally owned colony. It notes that the NIRC has assumed ownership of the infants, as is required under its written agreement with the NIH.

The Louisiana centre houses approximately 350 chimpanzees, of which the NIH owns 111. The agency pays the centre more than US$1 million a year to maintain its own animals and to support about 100 other chimps. Because of the high costs of lifetime maintenance of chimpanzees, the NIH has had a breeding moratorium in place since 1995. During the period in question, the NIRC used contraceptive methods that included: housing males and females separately when social groupings allowed; performing vasectomies on selected males; and using the implantable progestin Norplant and intrauterine devices.

Ongoing efforts
James Blanchard, the interim director of the NIRC, said in an email this week that the NIRC?s conception rate for the past two years has been less than 1%. This, he wrote, ?is a reflection of our ongoing efforts to provide responsible management of the NIH chimpanzee colony.?

But Kathleen Conlee, vice-president for animal-research issues at the Humane Society of the United States, which first learned of the births through public-records laws, says that the criteria used by the NIH to determine whether the ban was breached ? whether the center?s costs or total census increased ? are ?unacceptable?. ?How NIH has interpreted whether the NIRC bred chimpanzees is very misleading,? she says. ?It should be based on whether breeding occurred.?

Conlee notes that an NIH working group is now determining criteria for the agency?s funding of future chimpanzee research, responding to a report made last year by the US Institute of Medicine that concluded that invasive research is largely unnecessary. In addition, Congress is considering a bill that would end invasive research in great apes (see 'Bill to end US chimp research advances'). In this context, Conlee says, NIH officials ?are driven to not appear as if they weren?t properly monitoring the situation?.

But Gregory Kaebnick, a bioethicist at the Hastings Center in Garrison, New York, says that the drop in the reproduction rate during the moratorium indicates that ?the chimps were breeding, but the NIRC arguably was not breeding them?.

However, he adds, ?Though what NIH is doing here is comprehensible, within the letter of the law, there?s a certain amount of foot-dragging. Ultimately, they need to come to terms with the larger ethical debate.?

Apple vs. Samsung US verdict is in... but we have no idea what it is yet!

Apple vs. Samsung US verdict is in... but we have no idea what it is yet!

According to a sudden flooding of reports, the jury in the Apple vs. Samsung U.S. trial has come to a verdict...

...and we won't find out what that verdict is until later this afternoon.

Yes, just like American Idol, when they tease results and then cut to commercial, all we can do now is wait until later this afternoon, Pacific Time, to find out more.

Both Apple and Samsung have spent weeks in trial, and millions of dollars presenting their case. Apple has claimed Samsung is a copycat writ large, and Samsung has responded vigorously in the negative. Along the way we've seen some interesting iPhone and iPad prototypes, gotten a glimpse at some interesting moments in iPhone and iPad history, seen what Apple originally offered Samsung, and watched executives on both sides not come to any settlements, but mostly just watched the legal system strut and fret its hours upon the courtroom stage.

So grab a tasty snack, pour some spicy drink, and settle in. We'll update with what will likely be the incredibly complex, item by item, device by device, patent by patent verdict as soon as it becomes available.
